How do the indexing syringe tips work for cheek retraction in the DCI syringes?

The indexing syringe tips have notches pressed into the seating ring. When inserted into the DCI press ring adapter the ball bearings lock into the notches keeping it from rotating freely.. See attachment for a closer look!
